Payment links
Sending a payment link by text or WhatsApp: examples
What should a payment message say? Two templates, checks before sending and practical ways to avoid confusing requests.
Prepared

The essentials
To request payment by text or WhatsApp, copy the link from your payment tool and add your business name, the reason and the amount. The messaging app carries the request; payment takes place on the page opened by the link, not in the conversation.
Use a familiar channel
If you already communicate by text, continue in that thread. If the order was agreed by email, that conversation may be easier to find later. Avoid sending three requests through three channels at once: the customer could think several amounts are due.
Check the recipient, particularly on a shared phone. A payment request should not go to a group containing other customers.
Template for completed work
“Hello [name], thank you for choosing us. You can pay [amount] for [service / reference] here: [link]. Have a good day, [business name].” Match the tone to your relationship and avoid adding urgency that was not agreed.
The checkout amount must match the message. If you correct the request, explain which link to use and deactivate the old one where possible.
Template for an agreed deposit
“Hello [name], as agreed for [project], here is the link for the [amount] deposit: [link]. The remaining balance will be [amount], under quote [reference]. Thank you, [business].” The type of advance payment and its terms should already be clear in your business documents.
After sending, check the activity
A messaging app’s “read” status only suggests that the message was viewed. It does not confirm payment. Look up the transaction in your payment tool before thanking the customer for paying or sending a reminder.
If a customer is suspicious, offer to speak on your usual phone number. Never ask them to send a bank authentication code as proof that they have paid.
In practice
One link, one amount, one request
Before tapping Send, compare the message amount with the checkout, check the displayed business name and remove drafts containing an old link. These checks prevent clarification messages just when the customer wants to pay.
