Tap to Pay and payment link fees: how to compare

Percentage fees, fixed charges, subscriptions and average sale: calculate the cost of phone and remote payments rather than comparing one headline rate.

The essentials

To compare payment fees, add subscriptions, percentage charges on processed volume and any fixed per-transaction fees. Calculate in-person and online payments separately. The lowest percentage is not always the lowest total cost for your business.

Start with your actual activity

Record three figures: monthly transaction count, total amount and the share paid remotely. Add the card types you encounter if your contract distinguishes them. This avoids selecting a plan based on a typical sale that does not reflect your business.

A merchant taking many small payments is particularly sensitive to fixed charges. A service business with a few large invoices may care more about the percentage.

Use a simple calculation

Estimated monthly cost = subscription + volume × rate + payment count × fixed charge. Then add other charges that actually apply, such as hardware, extra seats or options. Check whether subscription prices include tax.

Compare two offers using the same volumes and card categories. An IC++ quote can separate interchange, network fees and the provider’s margin: compare the estimated total, not just the last component.

Read beyond the headline rate

Look at business and foreign cards, refunds, disputes and any currency conversion. Check whether the original processing charge is returned on a refund. Do not assume one percentage covers every situation.

Payout timing is another consideration, separate from fees. A cheaper offer is not automatically better if it does not fit your cash-flow needs or operations.

How to read Blaya’s preview plans

The Blaya plans presented in this direction are proposals still to be confirmed. Their pricing targets are neither a payment acceptance contract nor validated provider rates. Before choosing, compare final terms covering your phone and payment-link use.

In practice

Two fictional plans, the same volume

Educational calculation unrelated to Blaya pricing: for 100 payments of €20, a 1.5% plan costs €30. A 1% plus €0.20-per-payment plan costs €40 before any subscription. The lower percentage can therefore cost more.
